TG4 is living up to its commitment to Women’s Sport and the 20X20 campaign with a series of new documentaries focusing on the stories of leading women sports stars.
Mianach na mBan will see Aoife Ní Chasaide present a three-part series looking at the advances that have come about for women in a sporting context. It will feature stories of and contributions from stars including Katie Taylor, Sonia O’Sullivan, Dame Mary Peters and Derval O’Rourke.
That will be a key part of a strong sporting line up announced by the station for the coming months.
TG4 received great praise for their coverage of the Munster Connacht game in the Guinness PRO14 at the weekend with a microphone on Jerry Flannery through the pre-game warm up.
Live coverage over the spring will include more action from that tournament as well as matches from the Allianz National Hurling and Football leagues; the AIB Club Championships and the Men’s and Women’s Hula Hoops National Cup Finals in Basketball at the end of this month.
Jump Girls will be a follow up to the widely praised Jump Boys from six years ago, following the lives of female jockeys like Rachael Blackmore and the recently retired Katie Walsh and Nina Carberry.
The popular Laochra Gael series will also be back and this year will have documentaries on the sporting lives of Colm Cooper, Seamus Darby, Rena Buckley, Ciaran Duff, Andrew O’Shaughnessy and Jackie Tyrell.
