TG4’s comprehensive coverage of this year’s Ladies Football Championships produced one of their highest ever viewing figures for Sunday’s finals with a total of 476,000 tuning into coverage through the afternoon.
The number fell short of last year’s all-time high for the channel of 563,000 but is still regarded as a significant viewing figure for the Irish language broadcaster, and one if it’s biggest ever.
An average of 179,000 viewers watched Dublin retain their All Ireland crown against Cork in the Senior Final, representing a 26.1% share of viewing.
The match peaked just before the final buzzer, at 5.21pm, with 283,500 viewers. The game commanded a 23.7% share of Women and a 29.5% share of Men.
On Saturday night on TG4, a one-off special preview programme of Sunday’s finals, live from the Mansion House in Dublin, attracted a total of 128,000 viewers over its two-hour duration.
After the end of the Senior Final on Sunday afternoon, TG4 showed the documentary ‘Cora – The Greatest’, which followed Cora Staunton before and during her stint playing Aussie Rules football with the Sydney Giants. That programme reached 188,000 viewers in total.
Since May 6th TG4 broadcast 20 live matches on TG4, reaching over 850,000 viewers in total. Matches were also broadcast live on Facebook, YouTube and the TG4 Player and were available to viewers worldwide.
