Adventure enthusiasts from all corners of the world are set to descend on Killarney this weekend for Quest Adventure Race.

Over 2,000 adventurers, representing 15 countries will come to Killarney to compete in an adrenaline-packed day by running, cycling and kayaking across some of the most dramatic and breath-taking scenery in Ireland. The routes of the race encompass the Gap of Dunloe, Ladies View, and the iconic Torc Waterfall.

Now in its 7th year, Quest Killarney Adventure Race continues to attract Irelands top endurance athletes and competitors from around the world.  The event will be preceded by an expo for participants on Friday night before the race. Registration is open from 4.30pm to 9.30pm in the INEC.

The Expo will include a talk from transatlantic rower and adventurer Gavan Hennigan which is open to members of the public in the INEC at 8 pm.

Sport for Business interviewed Gavan live at the Fan Engagement Conference Kilkenny earlier in the year and his incredible story is well worth hearing if you are anywhere near Kerry this weekend.

Elite Event Management will also announce their 2018 Programme of Events at the Expo.  This will include a new location in the Quest Series at Kenmare and a new long-distance event Quest 12/24.

“Quest Killarney is the biggest adventure race of the year in Ireland and we are very excited to welcome participants, some returning, some first-timers to the event,” said Oliver Kirwan Race Director.

“It’s always a great day and we’ve changed the routes up a little this year to add an extra challenge.”

“To add to all this, we have Gavan Hennigan speaking on Friday evening and a great expo where we’ll launch our 2018 events. It’s going to be a great weekend. Best of luck to all participants and thank you to all who have been involved in making this an epic day of adventure.”

Adventure Racing continues to rise in terms of active participant numbers and the Quest Series has been very much to the fore with events this year in the UK and Europe as well as at home in Ireland.

Oliver Kirwan was a guest of Sport for Business at a special Round Table event on Sports Tourism in January and he has been a driving force behind the long-term establishment of this ultimate form of racing.

Killarney was the start point for Elite Event Management who have grown substantially from there managing events under their own name and for others including the Dublin Tunnel 10K earlier this year.

Elite Event Management, Fáilte Ireland and Athletics Ireland are among the more than 230 organisations that play an active part of the Sport for Business community.

Sport for Business sits on the Culture, Arts, Sport and Tourism Committee of the British Irish Chamber of Commerce and represents our members in that forum.
