Three New Roles Off the Pitch in Rugby

There are changes afoot in the world of Rugby line ups and this morning we can bring you news of three new appointments off the field of play.

Neil Hanna has been confirmed as the new Head of Commercial with Ulster rugby, stepping up from his previous role as Business Development Manager. The role became open when Fiona Hampton left for the world of Golf earlier in the summer and Hanna’s appointment comes at a good time with pre-season well underway.

He will understand the pressures of that as a player having represented ulster for three seasons between 2007 and 2009.

Down in Munster Garrett Tubridy has been appointed as the acting Head of Commercial and Marketing at Munster Rugby. This follows the departure of Doug Howlett from the role to return to New Zealand this summer.

Tubridy has been working on a number of consultancy projects since being the man in charge of delivering the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2017. Prior to that, he had been at the Heineken Cup for ten years working alongside Diarmaid Murphy, now at the GAA and Derek McGrath.

The third switch is the exit from the IRFU of Sam O’Byrne for a role as Content Manager with Bank of Ireland. O’Byrne rejoined the IRFU as Media and Communications Officer just after the last Rugby World Cup having spent three years prior to that at Wilson Hartnell.

With Bank of Ireland’s strong presence within Rugby, he will be a valuable addition to a strong team there.
