Value of major soccer clubs increases

The value of the World’s Top 20 soccer clubs now sits at an average of €580 million, up 20% on last year and surging again after a more modest 1.3% increase in the previous 12 months.  The figures appeared in a survey undertaken by Forbes and including data from Deloitte.

Manchester United top the list at a calculated value of just over €1.7 billion.  Real Madrid are the second most valuable club, worth an estimated €1.4 billion with Barcelona, Arsenal and Bayern Munich all breaching dollar billionaire status.

Operating revenues also increased by a healthy 20% to an average of more than €35 million across the same group.

The principal area for growth was in the 25% increase in broadcast revenue achieved by the Uefa Champions League.
