Sport for Business, in partnership with Liberty Insurance, is publishing our third annual list of the 50 Most Influential Women in Irish Sport.
This is not about Women’s sport, it is about the influence that women are wielding across all sport. We will identify leaders on and off the field of play. They will include those who are role models in terms of their abilities on and off the field of play. They will come from teams and individual sports, from sponsorship partners, from the media, from the administrative corridors of power and from places where influence may be subtle but no less powerful.
Elaine Carey is the Chief Commercial Officer with Three Ireland and earlier this year was appointed to the main board of the company, making her one of Ireland’s senior businesswomen.
She has overall charge of the company’s substantial investment in sport through its partnership with the FAI that runs until beyond the European Championships that will be hosted partly in Ireland in 2020.
The fact that Ireland missed out on qualification for the FIFA World Cup next summer will present new challenges for the sponsorship team to which Carey added Karl Donnelly from Heineken earlier this year.
A first step into eSports through an imaginative partnership with Ireland’s first major tournament in that space is the first evidence of where those challenges may be met.
Carey has been in senior roles at Three for ten years and before that worked in senior positions at Eircom and Digicel.
