New Republic of Ireland Women’s team manager Vera Pauw has appointed Eileen Gleeson as her assistant manager and Jan Willem van Ede to the role of goalkeeping coach.
Pauw has made the appointments ahead of her first game in charge when the Ukraine visit Tallaght Stadium for a vital Euro 2021 qualifier on October 8.
A major campaign to promote the match and encourage a big attendance at Tallaght Stadium will be launched later this morning and we will cover it in full on Sport for Business.
Holder of a UEFA Pro Licence, former Peamount United and UCD Waves boss Gleeson has been working for a number of years as a Sports Odfficer with dublin City Council and was the main driving force behind last year’s GAGA (Getting All Girls Active) Campaign.
Shewill begin work immediately with Pauw who is set to name her first provisional squad next week.
Van Ede, who will meet up with the squad for the first time next month, previously worked with the Dutch national team for 11 years, including with Pauw, and is a former goalkeeper with FC Utrecht and PSV where she played professionally for 22 years.
“We are delighted with these appointments,” said FAI High Performance Director Ruud Dokter.
“Eileen knows the Ireland players and the Irish game inside out and has a proven record at the highest level. Jan has worked extensively with Vera and will bring great experience to his role.”
The Women’s set up had another boost yesterday afternoon when the U17 squad comfortably topped their qualifying group for their European Championship, adding a 5-0 win over Greece to 10-0 and 6-0 wins over Albania and Lithuania respectively in the last week.
