This year’s 11th edition of the 50 Women of Influence in Irish Sport has given recognition to more new faces than ever before.

We set ourselves the target of introducing 40 percent of new names to the list of last year and while that means we cannot recognise all those who have significant influence, it is something we will continue with.

It has been a particular pleasure this year to see the appreciation of the 20 new names that we have been able to highlight for the work they are doing.

Those that did not appear this year have not been diminished in terms of what they do and they can take comfort and pride that the work they have done is making it easier for future leaders to follow in their footsteps.

Many will return in years to come depending on the rhythm of the year and the ever-changing marker of influence.

A change this year has been the removal of sports stars from the list. It can and is argued that it is their influence that is the most evident and the most important but our view is that it is also more obvious and less needful of recognition in our small corner of the world.

That does not mean they are less important in any way though and we will continue to find ways to celebrate them.

There is no league table of influence, everyone on the list is made more powerful by the presence of everyone that is around them.

We are grateful to our friends at AIG for their backing and support in publishing this list, and to all those who read the content and share it with positive commentary on other social media channels.

The number of nominations received was greater than ever this year and the foundations of the 2024 list have already been laid with new names being added to the long list almost every day.
