SUMMARY:Sport for Business Children and Sport 2021
DESCRIPTION:In order to change behaviour, you have to start at the beginning.\nWe are more acutely aware than ever before of the importance of physical movement to our physical and mental wellbeing. That applies at every stage of life and the best way to ensure a lifetime devotion to the idea of sport and exercise is to educate our children.\nAnd yet, in 2019 research by Sport Ireland and Sport NI showed that only 17 per cent of children in the Republic of Ireland were achieving the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity.\nThat same year researchers at DCU led by Dr Stephen Behan published data that revealed that one in four primary school children cannot run properly and less than one in five can throw a ball.\nOn Thursday, September 9th Sport for Business will host a conference on Children in Sport looking at a number of areas on how this can be improved.\nWe will talk to the researchers to see where we stand now in 2021 with regard to key metrics on children’s sporting engagement.\nWe will talk to sporting bodies on programmes they have created to bring children into their sport.\nWe will talk to advocates for Children in sport \nAnd we will talk to you with an interest in this very important area.\nAmong our speakers will be Dr Stephen Behan, of the Moving Well – Being Well project at DCU on the importance of Fundamental Movement Skills; Emma Larkin, author of the Izzy Sports series of Children’s books and Paddy O’Reilly creator of the PExpo event for school children.\nHere is the full schedule for the morning:\n1000: Welcome Comments from Rob Hartnett, Sport for Business\n1005: Through the Eyes of a Child – Emma Larkin, Children’s author of Izzy Sports Books\n1020: Dare to Believe – Olympic Ideals in the Classroom with Roisin McGettigan\n1035: Cúl Camps – Taking Sport into the Summer with Charles Harrison of the GAA\n1050: Fundamentals of Movement – Dr Stephen Behan of DCU\n1105: Sport in the Wider School Community – Patrick O’Reilly, Co-Founder of PExpo\n1120: Creating a Pathway for children – Will Clarke Academy director of the FAI.\n1135: Closing Comments and next steps\nIf you feel this would be of interest to you, register at the link attached and we will see you on the 9th.\nRegister to Join Us\nIs it time to take your place alongside the 250+ members of the Sport for Business network of sporting and business organisations working together across a number of key areas in the commercial world of Irish Sport?\nDownload our latest membership brochure here.\nSport for Business Partners\n[logocarousel id=”56327″]\n
