€26 million is a big pot of money but it has to be divided up amongst a record number of applicants, meaning that in many cases it is going towards the prosaic provision of the basics of providing sport.

That makes it worthwhile in its own right and a large number of the grants distributed as part of the 2023 Sports Capital and Equipment Programme – Equipment Only grants are for less than €5,000.

But at the other end of the scale there are some, generally though not exclusively to National Governing Bodies, that are in the six figure bracket.

These are the ones we are focusing on today with a list below of the XX projects that will be able to draw down sums north of €100,000.

€500,000 FAI for Nationwide Schools Football programme
€500,000 Athletics Ireland for Competition Equipment

17 projects in total then to receive more than €100,000.

Three of the grants are going to the FAI with the organisation now well past the challenges that prevented in being part of such largesse.

Two go to Irish Squash in a solid mark of respect for the work that is being done there.

Eight of the 17 are for water based sports from swimming and canoeing to Sailing and Rowing.

Athletics gets two and Gymnastics one.

We are particularly pleased that all of the recipients of these larger amounts are members of the Sport for Business community.
