Andrew Porter’s memoir Heart On My Sleeve was named the 2025 Eason Sports Book of the Year at last night’s 20th-annual An Post Irish Book Awards
Porter turned to the written word in a personal account that delves into the challenges and triumphs that have shaped him both on and off the field.
The awards, which took place at the Convention Centre in Dublin. celebrated writers including Róisín O’Donnell, Manchán Magan (posthumously), Jacqueline Connolly & Kathryn Rogers, as well as newcomers Claire Gleeson and Porter.
Porter’s book edged out a competitive field that included memoirs and autobiographies from across the Irish sporting landscape — from rugby to athletics and beyond.
In a brief statement shared on social media after the win, the Awards said Porter’s memoir “stood out for its honesty, courage and the way it captures the human side of sport — the highs, the setbacks and the personal journey beyond the pitch.”
