This Sunday, April 14th, features a historic triple-header at Croke Park, with the Very Camogie League Finals and Leinster GAA Football Quarter Final taking place simultaneously. It is the first time in history that both events will occur on the same day at GAA Headquarters.
All three games are being televised live on RTÉ2 but there is a strong campaign by Camogie sponsors Very to fill the stands and for the Dublin and Meath football fans to arrive early.
They were joined yesterday by 10 of the players taking part for a preview of the Finals Weekend.
Galway’s Aine Keane, Tipperary’s Karen Kennedy, Derry’s Aoife Ní Chaiside & Westmeath’s Aoife O’Malley, Wexford’s Kate Kirwan, Dublin’s Aisling Maher, Laois’s Liadan C Fennell, Armagh’s Leanne Donnelly, Wicklow’s Casey Kelly and Tyrone’s Siobhan Donnelly were on hand to speak with local and national media promoting the weekend action.
2024 signifies the 8th year of Very’s title sponsorship, it was formerly known as Littlewoods, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to enhancing the game’s visibility and supporting its players through continued investment and focus.
It has been a good storyteller, creating content that puts players at the heart of their communities and were one of the first sponsors to support live streaming of games, in advance if that becoming more normal during the last few years.
“Over the past eight years, we’ve seen firsthand the significant role Camogie plays in the lives of our customers and the broader community across Ireland,” said Head of Marketing for Very, Catherine O’Toole.
“Our dedication lies in bolstering and championing women in sports, perpetually striving to spotlight their achievements.”
“We ask fans to join us in supporting the finalists this weekend in Croke Park for what promises to be an exciting day of sport and entertainment.”
“This upcoming weekend promises some thrilling and closely fought Very Camogie League finals as ten teams vie for the prestigious national title,” added recently elected President of the Camogie Association, Brian Molloy.
“The Association recently unveiled a new Strategy with the goal of increasing attendance at Camogie events by 20% by 2026.”
“We urge fans, supporters, families, friends, and clubs to come out in full force to cheer on their county teams this weekend. We also call on GAA and Ladies Gaelic Football fans to show their support as we strive towards a more integrated Association in the future.”
The Very Camogie League Division 1B, 3A and 4 finals will take place on Saturday 13th April – Wexford V Dublin in Carlow, Armagh V Laois at Abbottstown, and Wicklow V Tyrone in Darver, County Louth.
Sport for Business Perspective:
A Division One Final without either Cork or Kilkenny is a rarity but it is good to spread the potential for silverware and this is a great day of sport that deserves the support of fans.
Dublin against Meath will attract a bigger crowd than have ever attended a Camogie match but is that right? Is it not worthwhile heading in earlier than usual to see the drama and excitement of a National Final being decided? If we are to say that equality is important, then taking action rather than just nodding our heads is important.
Brian Molloy will be our guest in the Leadership Series of the Sport for Business Podcast, dropping on Thursday, April 18th.
