The world of sports broadcasting is changing at a rapid pace. This weekend Talksport will enable soccer fans from outside the EU to hear live commentary , free of charge through twitter.
Many will ‘watch’ games through following fans comments on the social networking sight whach are updated in real time with goal reports, text comments and banter.  Now the radio station, part of the UTV media group has optimised its own twitter page to allow for the easy broadcast and retweeting of live audio.
The design has been done by Dublin and Belfast based Simply Zesty who also produced the videos introducing Sport for Business on this website.
Talksport signed a deal for the international broadcast rights to the Barclays Premier League coving up to 2015 and broadcasts on demand commentary in English, Spanish and Mandarin.  It has partnerships with other independent stations across the Americas, Africa and Asia who also take the service it offers.
RTE and Newstalk each have packages of radio broadcast of GAA matches, the broadcast agreements of which are up for renewal after next year’s championship season.  The market for gaelic games is clearly only a fraction that of the Premier League but the models developed in one can be applied to the other to produce more revenue streams, greater coverage around the world and a stronger bond with fans overseas that might be of real value over the long term.
Sport for Business will host a Members’ Round Table on Broadcasting at the Montrose headquarters of RTE on Thursday, November 8th (date to be confirmed). If you are interested in attending please contact us today.
