1,500 young athletes will take part this weekend in the GloHealth National Juvenile Indoor Athletics Championships in Athlone.
Spread over two days the competition will go head to head in terms of coverage with the big guns of the RBS 6 Nations, the Allianz Leagues and more but the sport is willing to stand up to secure a share of the coverage that might once have been seen as impossible.
The second day coverage will be streamed live on Athletics Ireland TV, with full commentary and analysis provided by Jumping the Gun.
Sport is and always has been multi faceted. The amount of events taking place on our one island is way beyond the reach of any one broadcaster to cover so the sports are taking it on themselves.
From Athletics to Hockey, Basketball to Badminton and many points between pictures are being beamed to niche audiences that are attractive as part of a bigger picture to sponsors and commercial partners.
Well done to those who have seen the future and grasped the opportunity to make space for themselves rather than wait for it to be granted to them.
And good luck to all those who are taking part this weekend at any and every level…
Sport finding its own broadcast space
