Anna Geary irish TVHot on the heels of a new strategic plan Camogie gets another burst of positive coverage this evening with the start of a new six part series on Irish TV highlighting the back story and the personalities behind the sport.

Presented by former camogie All Ireland winning captain and All Star  Anna Geary, the Camogie Show will explores the skills, the commitment, the preparation and the dedication of players who love the sport.

The show will go out at 8pm this evening and can be seen on Sky channel 191, all Free to Air boxes, Freesat 400, Eircom’s eVision 191 and online at www.irishtv.ie

“The whole idea of the show is to give the country a flavour of camogie and how much work goes into it, from under age at the grassroots right up to county level,’ said Geary.

“I think it’s really important that people get to see females coming to the fore.”

“We see our male county players on television all the time. This is an opportunity for us to see the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes in camogie and not just the players, but the management, those involved in administration and those that keep the show going from making the sandwiches to washing the jerseys.”

“This really is everybody’s show and I am really excited to be involved,”

“Camogie is played by over 100,000 women in Ireland and is one of the most popular female team sports in Ireland,” said Irish TV Commissioning Editor Brian Hurley.

“We felt it was time to showcase this to a much bigger audience.”

“Camogie has one of the most loyal supporter and player networks in Ireland and this show goes behind the scenes to capture the essence and important of the sport in 2016.”

“We hope the series will help promote camogie at all levels and will inform viewers of what the sport means to so many people around the country and abroad.”

There is an opportunity to sponsor the show which could be a way into Women’s sport for a brand looking to make a mark.  Liberty Insurance is the sponsor of the All Ireland Camogie Championship and the irish Daily Star is supporter of the National League.

A major part of the strategic plan launched on Sunday was the finding of new commercial partners for the sport.

This was the Irish TV segment broadcast last month from the Sport for Business ‘Sporting Year to Savour event for members.
