Des Allen tennisDes Allen is stepping down from his 20 year tenure as CEO of Tennis Ireland later this year with a successor now being sought to take over in August.

Allen came back to work after a sixteen month battle with illness last year but has now decided to move to another stage of his life.

“I will have completed twenty years of service with Tennis Ireland in early August and I feel this is the right time to move on’ he said in a statement issued yesterday.

“Tennis has been my passion for most of my life and I feel privileged to have been able to work in the sport at this level for this period.”

“I am pleased to be leaving Tennis Ireland at a time when the numbers playing our sport are growing again.”

“Equally, our National Academy is now producing a generation of players capable of competing in Grand Slam tennis.”

“I am leaving Tennis Ireland as an organisation which is very solid in terms of financial performance and governance and I would like to wish the incoming CEO every success. For me it’s time to begin the third act!”

Allen has been to a number of Sport for Business events and always served with the interests of the sport at heart and with a wry sense of humour.

We wish him well wherever life takes him next.
