RTE’s extended coverage of the Paralympic Games kicked off last night with Joanne Cantwell and Daráine Mulvihill fronting the studio discussion alongside analysts Mark Rohan and Natalya Coyle.

Rohan was a Double Gold Medallist in London and is now based in California but has returned home to contribute to the games coverage which have been made possible through support from Paralympics main sponsor Allianz.

Evanne ní Chuilleann was fresh off the plane after a two week break in Ireland between Rio engagements and was live in the full Maracana Stadium for the opening ceremony.

Ticket sales for the Games have picked up markedly in the past week with over 1.5 million sold.

Cantwell and Mulvihill will present Paralympics 2016 on RTÉ2 each night through the games with a mixture of highlights and live coverage of the Irish in action. Six-time Paralympian Patrice Dockery, Olympic Silver-medallist Annalise Murphy, London 2012 Olympian Jessie Barr, RTÉ Soccer analyst Richie Sadlier and former World Track Cycling champion and Olympian Martyn Irvine will also form part of the analyst roster.

RTÉ2 will also live coverage as four-time Paralympic gold medallist Jason Smyth goes for gold in the T13 100m final on Friday 9 September (2.55pm) and Michael McKillop’s bid for a fourth Paralympic gold in the Men’s T37 1500m final on Sunday at 4.00pm.

RTÉ television News will have a round-up of Irish involvement and other major events from the Rio Paralympics each day on RTÉ Six One and Nine O’Clock News television bulletins.

Radio Sport will bring you the stories of the Paralympics each day from Morning Ireland through until late in the evening with updates on sport bulletins.

While RTÉ2 will be the home of Rio 2016 Paralympic Games on television this year all of the content will also be available to viewers in the Republic of Ireland on RTÉ Player.

For the duration of the Paralympics, RTÉ.ie/Sport will present a dedicated Paralympics site, delivering news, analysis, previews, as well as daily Live Trackers, bringing up-to-the minute news from the Paralympic Games. Live video streams from the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games will also be shown on RTÉ.ie/Sport throughout the 10 days of the games.
