grant-thornton-start-2016Dublin’s Docklands were alive last night to the beat of over 5,000 pairs of pounding feet as the Grant Thornton Corporate 5K scored another big success.

Mark Kirwan of Glanbia took the spoils as the fastest man on the night beating the traffic of fellow runners to record a time of 14:30.

Eimear Gorman scored a double for the food industry when landing the Women’s race for Team Danone Nutricia in a time of 18:21.

Davy struck back landing the Women’s race with Mason Hayes and Curran coming out on top in the mixed event.

The start and finish of the race took place outside Grant Thornton’s offices south of the river but hopefully did not disturb the work being undertaken inside on the investigations currently under way into governance and ticketing at the Olympic Council of Ireland.

There was a lively party atmosphere afterwards on Grand Canal Square and this was a great night for Ireland’s business community to show act they can do in a sporting context.

It follows on from a hugely successful Great Dublin Bike ride on Sunday when 5,000 set out from Smithfield to cover either 60 or 100 kilometres and kick off Dublin’s lively contribution to the European Week of Sport.
