Children from across the country enjoyed the experience of a lifetime at the SPAR FAI Primary School 5s National Finals in Aviva Stadium on Wednesday.
Girls and boys from 12 different counties battled it out for national honours on a sun-kissed day that they will remember forever.
The 2017 SPAR FAI Primary School 5’s Programme was the biggest yet as more than 28,500 children from 1,495 schools took part in county, regional and provincial blitzes nationwide.
This sets a new record for the programme which has been coordinated by FAI Schools since the mid-1990s.
Reaching parents through kids is a time honoured tradition in marketing but doing it through a sporting context has become a real winner for brands. Kellogg’s will be across the GAA this summer as Allianz have been for over 20 years in support of schools GAA. Aldi in Rugby are pursuing a similar path and while Bank of Ireland’s main activity with Rugby is at the senior team level they are also heavily involved with summer camps.
Lidl have been running in store promotions in support of their Ladies Football sponsorship, giving away kit to school teams while Littlewoods ireland were keen to include the GAA Go Games programme as part of their new partnership in 2017.
SPAR FAI Primary School 5’s Programme ambassador and former Republic of Ireland International Keith Andrews and Patrick O’Donovan TD, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, mingled with proud parents amongst those present to support the teams.
