Heskin joined the Board of the IHA in 2010 and served initially as its financial officer. He has had a long career in similar roles with Irish and multinational companies.
The Galwegian’s sporting background was primarily in rowing where he was involved on the national executive of Rowing Ireland and was the team manager at the Beijing Olympics.
“I am delighted to be given this opportunity to work with Irish Hockey at a very exciting time in its development,” Haskin said on his appointment. “I believe hockey has made great strides forward in the last number of years and has positioned itself well to meet the challenges that face the sport in the current environment.”
“I look forward with confidence to a growing, thriving domestic game and a high performance programme which can achieve its goal of participation at the Olympics in Rio 2016. I also hope to build on the already excellent partnership hockey has with the Irish sport council. “
“Mike’s understanding of high performance sport and financial background will be hugely beneficial as the sport looks to continue to build from the grass roots up to its International teams aiming for Rio,” added IHA Chairman, David Miller.
