TG4 has announced details of its coverage of the new Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup which gets underway this coming weekend.

They will broadcast a selection of live free-to-air games, deferred coverage, and highlights programming throughout the Rainbow Cup including live coverage of the Final on Saturday 19 June.

The opening games between Ulster and Connacht and Leinster and Munster will be shown live on eir Sport next Friday and Saturday with TG4 showing full deferred coverage after the final whistle.

The first three rounds of the tournament will all be local derbies with the hope being that easier Covid 19 travel restrictions will allow for games to take place involving the teams from other countries to take place through late May and early June.

These will include the Vodacom Bulls, the Emirates Lions, Cell C Sharks and DHL Stormers from South Africa.

A total of six rounds, with eight games per round, will take place, with all teams ranked in a single league table. After 57 games in total, the two top teams will play in the final on Saturday 19 June.

The TG4 Rugbaí Beo team, lead by presenter Máire Treasa Ní Dhubhghaill, will feature expert analysis from Eimear Considine, Deirbhile Nic a Bhaird, Niamh Ní Dhroma, Marcus Horan, Ronan Loughney, Eoghan Ó Neachtain and Eamonn Molloy along with a host of others.

“TG4 is delighted to bring this new cross-hemisphere tournament to Irish viewers for the very first time,” said Rónán Ó Coisdealbha, TG4 Head of Sport.

“During what has been a challenging time for sport, TG4 has continued to provide live, free to air sporting entertainment for Irish audiences. We are looking forward to seeing the South Africa ‘Super’ teams become part of our Rugbaí Beo line-up.”
