It was a special performance by Ireland on Saturday afternoon, taking the game to the All Blacks and pretty much beating them in every area.

There was a spark about the attack and steel about the defence that saw them through to a 20-10 victory that was one of the most enjoyable games of Irish Rugby to watch in many years.

Coming midway between World Cup cycles it gives hope that should the two sides meet again in France ’23 as they did in Japan ’19 that the result would be a lot closer and by no means certain.

The Aviva Stadium was packed and vociferous in its support, the TV audience will doubtless come in at its peak as one of the biggest of the year, and the feel-good factor it has generated is of greater value in these Covid recovery times than might have ever been the case.
