Dermot Rigley - RTE Sport, Russell Keating Sony, Michael Corcoran - RTÉ SportRTÉ Sport is to broadcast full live and exclusive radio commentary on all 10 of the British and Irish Lions rugby matches on the tour of Australia. TV coverage is exclusive to Sky Sports with many clubs setting up special screenings for the early morning match times but the radio coverage will widen the appeal to a broader audience.
The first match of the tour against the Barbarians in Hong Kong and the three test matches will all be broadcast live on Saturdays on RTÉ 2fm.
The six other games on Saturdays and in midweek will be broadcast in full on RTÉ Radio 1 Extra which is available on LW, RTÉ Radio Player, RTÉ.ie, UPC and Saorview.  There will be regular live updates into bulletins and programmes on RTÉ 2fm and RTÉ Radio 1.
RTÉ Sport’s coverage of the tour is being sponsored by Sony who, while major sporting sponsors on an international stage, have not had a high profile in Ireland up to this point.
They are using the programmes as part of a promotional campaign around the Sony Xperia Z smartphone and tablet.
Smartphone and tablet use is soaring around the world with Ireland one of the leading adopters and sport has been a prime driver with its steady supply of live and shared content.
“The British & Irish Lions Tour is one of the great events in world sport,” said Dermot Rigley of RTÉ Sport.  “We will be there every there step of the way as the official Lions Radio broadcaster in Ireland and we’re delighted to welcome Sony on board as our partners in bringing the games to an Irish audience.
“Our sport sponsorships on an international scale allow us to promote our phones in a subtle and authentic way,” added Russell Keating, Sales and Marketing Manager with Sony. “Our promise to fans is to enrich their experience during the game but also before and after.”
