2024 Olympic Finalist Ellen Walshe and European Champion Danielle Hill will get Ireland’s first senior international competition, since the Paris Olympic Games, underway at the 2024 World Swimming Championships (25m) today in Hungary’s capital city Budapest.

Six of Ireland’s thirteen swimmers will be in action at the Duna Arena on the opening day of competition.

Live broadcast of the heats will be visible on Eurovision Sport at 07:50 for the heats and 16:00 for the Semi Finals and Finals.

Hill opens the Championships for Ireland in the 100m Backstroke, followed by John Shortt in the male equivalent event. Hill is the Irish senior record holder in the event in 57.56 from 2023 and Shortt the Irish junior record holder in 52.24, a record he set just weeks ago.

Ellen Walshe competes in both the 50m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley on day one. Walshe is a European bronze medallist (2023) in the 200m Individual Medley and a 2021 World bronze medallist in the 400m Individual Medley.

Paris Olympian Max McCusker swims in the Men’s 50m Butterfly while Nathan Wiffen represents Ireland for the first time at a World Championships in the 1500m Freestyle. Wiffen will swim in the fastest heat of the event to try qualify for this evening’s Finals.
SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

Swimming was a star turn at the Olympics with Team ireland winning one gold and two bronze medals for Daniel Wiffen and Mona McSharry. Swim Ireland are issuing daily media bulletins as above and it will be interesting to see how much media pick up the Championships get in this first test of the sports appeal Post Paris.
