Paul O'Connell PinergyPaul O’Connell, just back from his tour of Australia with the British and Irish Lions has put his strength into a new campaign launching Pinergy, a pay-as-you-go energy company.
O’Connell is featuring in three television advertisements, one of which can be seen below and is the one returning Lion to have been on the radio interview circuit throughout the past 24 hours.
Using a sporting star with a cast iron appeal to media and the public has given the company enormous publicity for the idea of ‘no more electricity bills’ which has clear appeal in the current economic climate.
Pinergy has a keypad which is installed in the home or business and shows exactly what electricity is being used and how much ‘credit’ is left on the account.  It can be topped up via mobile phone or online and the company will not cut off energy to homes between 5pm and 9am or on weekends.
The company is based on UCD’s Belfield campus and is being managed for former Mazars Partner Enda Gunnell.  It is part of a Cork based firm Dan Twomey Water Power Engineering Limited.
O’Connell is understood to have a stake in the business but was at pains to stress that he sees his playing career extend to include the next Rugby World Cup in 2015.
He has previously been involved in promotional campaigns for brands including O2, Powerade and Adidas.
