‘Andrew: The Lad from Leixlip’, is a new documentary charting the footballing journey of Norwich City and Republic of Ireland international Andrew Omobamidele.
The documentary premiered on the Norwich City official YouTube channel at 7pm on Monday evening.
It looks at the defender’s journey from his hometown club Leixlip United all the way to the Norwich City and Republic of Ireland first teams.
Milestones from his career to-date such as his first contract, debuts for club and country, and set-backs along the way, are all told through the eyes of the player and those closest to him, accompanied by footage from his schoolboy days and trial period with the Canaries.
Robbie Martin, the Vice Chair and Kenny Molloy, Omobamidele’s first coach are interviewed and it is a lovingly told story of the process of trials.
“As a parent you you’ve got a teenage child and a lot of people circling around promising the sun, moon and stars, most of which isn’t real but Kenny was a rock, giving us great advice along the way,” said his Mum in a story that many will find familiar but which he emerged from on the right side of.

For many clubs the story only begins when the player signs for the club. This is a great example of the deeper origins of where a star first shines brightly,
