Athletics Ireland have announced a new three-year partnership that will see Biofreeze become the Official Recovery Partner to Athletics Ireland.

Biofreeze is a brand owned by Reckitt. It provides cold therapy pain relief for sore muscles, sore joints, backache and arthritis and is available at pharmacies and retail outlets throughout Ireland.

It will become title sponsor of several high-profile running events including the Biofreeze Great Ireland Run, The Biofreeze Irish Runner 5k (incorporating the National 5k Championships), The Biofreeze Irish Runner 5 Mile (incorporating the National 5 Mile Championships) and The Biofreeze Irish Runner 10 Mile (incorporating the National 10 Mile Championships).

These events take place annually in the Phoenix Park and attract 18,000 runners from across the country.

Olympian Sharlene Mawdsley has been appointed ambassador to Biofreeze who will support her in her ambition to represent Ireland at the 2024 Paris Games.

There will be a new Biofreeze Zone before and after each of the races.

“With a huge year of athletics ahead, Biofreeze is delighted to come on board as an official partner to Athletics Ireland and to support Sharlene as she aims to secure her place in Paris this Summer,” said Charl Malans, Head of Marketing at Reckit.

“Everyone is delighted to welcome Biofreeze on board as a partner for the next three years,” added Athletics Ireland’s Marketing, Communication and Sponsorship Manager, Daragh Browne.

“It is a hugely exciting time for athletics in Ireland and we’re thrilled to be working with Biofreeze who support our vision to inspire the nation to be active, healthy and to perform through athletics.”
