Paralympic Games gold medal winner Eve McCrystal was back in the saddle last week at an AXA Community Bike Ride event on the Old Rail Trail Greenway from Mullingar to Athlone.

She led a 25 kilometre cycle with eight competition winners who won their place by participating in an AXA Community Bike Ride between August 1st and September 8th.

On the coffee stop, all eight names were entered into a draw from her cycling helmet and one name was drawn out to win a €1,000 value bike.

The programme was developed with Cycling Ireland to inspire people to get out on their bikes, taking part in a healthy, social and safe ride with trained Ride Leaders.

During Covid it morphed into the opportunity to log virtual solo rides but it has now returned to its social roots.

Over the next seven days there are rides ranging from 20 to 100 kilometres across counties, Kildare, Wexford, Wicklow, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Westmeath and others.
