Basketball Ireland has secured a significant boost ahead of a pivotal week for the sport, confirming a new two-year broadcast partnership with TG4 that will see the station continue as the official broadcaster of Ireland’s men’s and women’s international basketball teams.
The agreement extends a relationship that dates back to 2014 and ensures that TG4 will remain the home of Irish basketball through the 2025/26 and 2026/27 seasons.
The station will once again deliver live coverage of the Men’s and Women’s Domino’s National Cup finals in January, as well as the Domino’s Men’s and Women’s Super League finals in April — two cornerstone events in the domestic calendar.
Across the 2025/26 season, 14 games will be broadcast live, including full coverage of Ireland’s international programme.
The timing of the announcement could hardly be more fitting, arriving just days before a demanding stretch of international fixtures for the senior men under new head coach Michael Bree.
Ireland open their FIBA EuroBasket 2029 Pre-Qualifiers away to Luxembourg on Thursday, before returning home to face North Macedonia at the National Basketball Arena on Sunday.
Basketball Ireland CEO John Feehan welcomed the renewed deal, describing TG4 as a long-standing and valued partner in the sport’s growth.
“I am delighted to see a continuation of Basketball Ireland’s long standing partnership with TG4, which has been in place since 2014,” he said.
“They’ve provided superb coverage of our Irish international teams since our return to FIBA EuroBasket in 2021. We’ve continued to build on our relationship, with TG4 showing last July’s summer friendlies against Norway and September’s FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup.”
Feehan added that TG4’s commitment stretches far beyond international coverage.
“This is in addition to TG4’s long-running broadcast of the National Cup finals every January, along with the conclusion to our domestic season — the Domino’s Men’s and Women’s Super League finals. Irish basketball continues to grow, both in terms of participation and engagement, and TG4 coverage forms a key part of this.”
From TG4’s perspective, the decision to extend reflects the rising profile of the sport and the consistently strong audiences attracted by marquee fixtures.
“We’ve all seen the surge in interest in Irish basketball over the last number of years and we’re thrilled to extend this partnership for the next two seasons with Basketball Ireland,” said TG4 Head of Sport Rónán O’Coisdealbha.
“The Irish men’s and women’s teams have put in some really impressive performances in Europe, picking up notable wins along the way.”
O’Coisdealbha highlighted the enduring pull of the Cup finals and the growing appeal of the domestic leagues. “The National Cup finals continue to be one of the showpiece events in the Irish sporting calendar and we round out the domestic season with a ‘Super Sunday’, broadcasting back-to-back Domino’s Women’s and Men’s Super League finals. We look forward to showcasing the best of Irish basketball once more.”
