Locker, the Galway and Dublin based sports tech and media start-up, has today announced a partnership with Rachael Blackmore. The two-year deal will see Blackmore become the first global brand ambassador for Locker.
The Irish start-up was founded in 2020 by Ross O’Dwyer, the former CEO and Co-Founder of Pundit Arena and alumni of the Sport for Business PwC 30 Under 30, along with Brian Quinn, the former Commercial and Marketing Director of Setanta Sports, Andrew Pierse and Matt Steerman.
Together, they have over three decades of experience in the sports media and subscription industry. Locker has raised over €1.5 million to date from Irish and US Investors including Techstars, Dapper Labs, the WDC and Stadia Ventures.
We are big fans at Sport for Business. Our service appears on the app and it has become the default sports news service on our own phones. The business has been a member of the Sport for Business network since its launch in the depths of the lockdown.
Its goal is to centralise the world’s best sports content in one app. Today the Locker app aggregates content from more than 2,000 sports publishers across 18 sports from around the globe. It splits into headlines and specific sports and teams so that you can customise what you see and how you view.
Simple but very effective. Video, audio and social features are scheduled to be added in 2023.
“We are excited and feel very privileged to have Rachael on board as an ambassador for Locker,” said Founder Ross O’Dwyer.
“She is one of Ireland’s leading athletes and has made an enormous impact on Irish sports fans, particularly over the past few years.”
“Rachael’s commitment and competitiveness make her an ideal partner for Locker. She is also a fan of many other sports and the Locker app helps Rachael follow her favourite teams and athletes during her busy schedule.”
“I’m very proud to be Irish, so having the opportunity to partner with an Irish start-up that is improving the way fans connect with sport is particularly exciting for me,” added Blackmore.
“The team have built an excellent product which delivers a personalised newsfeed of all my favourite sports news, helping me keep up to date on the go. There is a huge ambition and drive amongst the team and I am looking forward to working together over the next couple of years.”
In July 2020 Locker was the first Irish sports company to be accepted into the prestigious Techstars Sports Accelerator Programme in Indianapolis. In 2021 it was a winner of the Google Adopt-a-Startup programme.
