It promises to be some night in Blackrock this evening as Cabinteely FC celebrate their 50th anniversary with an international friendly game against New Zealand.

“Their squad has players from Marseille, Ipswich, and Leeds,” said Cabinteely Manager Pat Devlin speaking after Friday night’s 4-1 win over Dublin rivals Shelbourne.

“It’s fantastic that they’re coming here, and showing us huge respect by playing a team from the First Division.”

“We’re hoping for a full house, and I just hope they get a great reception from everyone in the Dun Laoghaire area, and the League of Ireland in general, because they deserve it.”

Cabinteely are playing their third year in the League of Ireland first division and go into the mid season break in fourth place on 21 points.  That is more than they achieved in either of their first two seasons playing at this level and there is clear progress being made.

The club recently renewed sponsorship deals with Friends First and Sherry Fitzgerald and released an ambitious five year plan for growth and development at the start of this season.

Tonight though is all about celebration of the 50 years that have brought the club to where they are today and a party atmosphere at Stradbrook.
