
Camogie recently published a new National Development Plan for the sport taking it through to 2019 and creating commercial opportunities to grow the sport further is a key part of that.
The new person will be the ‘brand guardian’ for camogie in Ireland, and according to the job specification which is published today on the Camogie website, “must retain a big picture vision for the future of the game while managing the day-to-day responsibilities of the post.”
Those will include the design, delivery and evaluation of marketing, sales promotion and communication strategies for the Camogie Association to further grow and develop player participation and attendance at games.
The identification, development and maximising of value for all sponsorship, partnership and other commercial opportunities will be a key element in the sport which has a playing population of over 100,000 and is a major part of the Gaelic Games family.
Liberty Insurance has been the main partner for the sport through what was at the time the first joining of sponsorship of the All Ireland Championships in Hurling and Camogie. It has proven to be a strong partner giving equal billing to both sports and really raising the profile of the sport at national level.
Last year Sport for Business worked with Liberty to bring Clare Balding over for an immensely popular session in Croke Park to launch the #SupportHerSport campaign through the summer months.
The appointment will be on a fixed term contract basis of 5 years and will be based at the Association’s headquarters in the shadow of Croke Park. It is a senior role and the advertisement suggests a minimum seven years of brand experience as being a minimum requirement.
The responsibilities listed as part of the job spec include the need to:
- Act as a member of the Association’s senior management team
- Maximise all commercial and marketing opportunities to drive substantially increased revenue growth and manage key relationships
- Undertake regular market analyses to identify commercial growth opportunities and to evaluate the financial and market impacts of commercial and marketing activities
- Lead the development, planning and implementation of specific multi-channel campaigns e.g. ticketing, events, community projects, sales and merchandising
- Oversee the development of social, digital and e-marketing policies to increase fan engagement and data capture
- Review and develop the Camogie brand to be recognised as an exciting and innovative brand to the forefront in Irish sport. Act as Brand Guardian for the Camogie Association across all platforms and with our units at club, county, provincial and international levels and at national level with our commercial partners, sponsors, media partners and licensees
- Create, deliver and evaluate marketing and communications strategies that will enhance the image and reputation of Camogie and the Camogie Association including a digital marketing and communications plan with particular consideration of key national games and events
- Develop and manage media relation and negotiating games’ related and other broadcast outputs
- Manage the direction, design and production of Camogie Association publications and social media communications including our national website www.camogie.ie
- Manage and oversee national events, delivered in collaboration with relevant staff, particularly the Operations Co-ordinator
- Support a voluntary team of County Board and Provincial Council Camogie PROs and the National Communications and Marketing Committee
- Ensure strong and productive relationships with third parties to ensure smooth and timely delivery of commercial, marketing and communications initiatives and campaigns including related agencies, suppliers and the media
