The kit will include a limited edition Samsung smartphone, pre loaded with a selection of sponsored football apps and protected by an FAI branded cover, a watch, car sticker and supporters pin. It will go on sale from Three stores nationwide on Monday May 7th, one month before the start of the Euro 2012 Championship Finals and will retail at a cost of €89.
The package is a natural connection for the FAI’s main sponsor, driving customers and revenue into its network of stores and building a close association with the team in advance of the main event of the soccer year. Marketing material around the campaign will include the exhortation to “Go Green with Pride” but it is to be hoped this does not get mixed up with promotions about The Incredible Hulk’s starring role in the Avengers summer blockbuster movie.
The 3Football App included on the phone will include regular newsfeeds on all of the action in Poland and the Ukraine, squad announcements, fixtures, live match commentary, results and tables.
“We’re delighted to be launching the Three Ireland Samsung Supporters Kit,” said Elaine Carey, Sales and Marketing director at Three. “This is the first major step in our campaign to support the team in the run-up to Poland in June. We will be announcing a host of additional activities in the coming weeks to give Republic of Ireland fans the chance to support the team this summer.”
Three is the primary sponsor of the Republic of Ireland football team and the Football Association of Ireland. Its football affinity scheme offers FAI-affiliated clubs across the country the chance of earning cash when their members switch to Three. The more people that switch through the club, the more money the club earns as a cash bounty, to help with its support and development.
