Each weekend, we select performances from Irish sports that deserve recognition. This weekend, a very special one,  we highlight action in Football, Rugby, Basketball, and Gaelic Games.

This week’s Champions of the Weekend is brought to you by KPMG, one of Sport for Business’s key partners and a supporter of our coverage of Golf and Innovation.

Troy Parrott

The first away hat-trick to be scored by a senior international footballer for the Republic of Ireland, when everything was on the line, and the whole country was tuned in.  It does not get any better than this.

Mack Hansen

To score a first-half hat-trick of tries on his return to the international line-up, against the country of his birth, in front of a packed Aviva Stadium.  That’s special.

Irish Women’s Basketball

Ireland put in an offensive and defensive masterclass to defeat Group A top seeds Bosnia and Herzegovina 94-67 and register Ireland’s first win since the team’s return to FIBA Women’s EuroBasket in 2021.

Republic of Ireland U17 Men’s Footballers

To make it to the knock-out stage of the U17 World Cup Finals in Qatar was special, but then to defeat Canada in a penalty shootout out after conceding a late equaliser in the Round of 32, well that is something else again.

Hannah Tyrell and Aoife O’Donoghue

The players from Dublin and Galway were named as the 2025 TG4 Ladies Footballer and PwC Camogie Player of the Year at the 2025 TG4 and PwC All Star awards at gala events across Dublin on Saturday night.
