Grant Thornton 5K 2013Grant Thornton and Athletics Ireland have confirmed that the Grant Thornton Corporate 5k Team Challenge will take place around the streets of the Dublin Docklands for a third year.

The 2014 edition will take place on the evening of Tuesday, 2nd September and will follow a one lap flat course around taking in the Quays and a number of bridges down the port side of the Liffey.

Last years event saw over 750 teams of four taking part, a 50% increase on the inaugural run, and this year is expected to match that.

Team members’ times are combined to determine the overall winner.  Davy Stockbrokers, Accenture, BNY Mellon and Capita all had runners in the top 20 last year.

“It was a fantastic sight to see so many runners taking part last year from the regular runner to the complete beginner,” said event ambassador, Olympian and former London Marathon winner Catherina McKiernan.

“This event is a great way to encourage people to take the first step towards getting fit enough to run a 5k. The team element adds a sense of fun and camaraderie amongst work colleagues.”

“As a team event, the corporate challenge is a great opportunity to build team spirit and to create a sense of healthy competition,” added Colin Feely of Grant Thornton.

“This event goes from strength to strength every year with more people participating and I would encourage employees and employers from across Dublin to get involved. With 8 weeks left before the run there is plenty of time to get race-ready.”

Last year there were over 3,000 participants and the event was oversubscribed, early registration is advisable this year and can be completed from here. A 10% donation from each team entry will go to the Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice.
