He was a star attraction at Royal Portrush in July. He will be coming to Adare Manor for the JP McManus Pro-Am in 2020 and Tiger Woods has now opened up on his game and his mind in a new 12 part series, created by Discovery’s GOLFTV powered by PGA TOUR.
The ground-breaking series will give golf fans unparalleled access to one of the sporting icons of our time. It will be delivered over 10 minute episodes released weekly from today.
They will cover in turn his pre-round mental preparation to his detailed putting practice; the formative influences on his game and the latest workout techniques he employed as he returned to the top and a 15th Major title at the 2019 US Masters.
“The My Game series provides a total golf lesson that no one has had before,” said Woods. “I’m so excited to share my thoughts on the way I play and think about the game.”
“My approach has evolved over the years, but the fundamentals my dad taught me have remained the same. For the first time, I will share them in a way that all golfers — from beginners to experienced players — can enjoy.”
“This is my first complete guide on how I think and prepare for every shot, every hole and every round, from my perspective. And I hope the advice I share will help all players in how they think about and enjoy the game.”
In the first episode – My Practice – Tiger reveals his practice methods and the intensity and detail-oriented nature of his preparations, and how this enables him to feel positive when it comes to competition. Woods also talks candidly about how his approach to practice has evolved over time with injury management and family life taking precedence.
It was released free of charge on twitter and is worth a watch.
This is the kind of content that most major media outlets would have longed to carry. That it should come out through owned media direct from the PGA Tour means it will be less critical that had it been in Sports Illustrated or the New York Times but the access comes with that caveat that it’s controlled.
It’s the way that stars and organisations are moving.
