The Tour de France Grand Depart in Yorkshire at the Weekend was a massive success most likely beyond the wildest dreams of those behind it. Here is a great story of Gary Verity, the man behind the bid, which came to him while shaving and which had to overcome not being the preferred Government bid.
In total well over 3 million people lined the streets to watch the 200 cyclists whizz by. Estimates are that the cash value to the economy for the three day spin will be over €125 million. When the Tour comes to town it books 1,200 hotel rooms a night. As an example of the scale, if there was a plan to bring the Grand Depart to the Ring of Kerry that alone would suck up over 1/3rd of the hotel room capacity across the entire South West region.
It’s tough to get noticed as well but painting large fields has been popular this year and here is a stop motion video of how McCains made sure that for some in the air at least, their message was loud and clear.
