Rob Hartnett from Sport for Business featured in an item on yesterday evening’s Six-One News on RTÉ1 about the threat to sporting events by protest groups.

Following on from disruption by Animal rights protesters at the Randox Aintree Grand National on Saturday and the protest by environmental campaigners last night at the World Snooker Championships, all sports organisers are now on high alert to counter the threat of protest.

Sport is broadcast live to bigger audiences than are accessible elsewhere, in a public setting the date and venue for which is known well in advance.

The balance is that they are secure venues where the safety of fans and participants is high on the agenda.

The news bulletin touched on the subject which we will explore in greater detail later this week.
