Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council today officially launched its Local Sport and Physical Activity Plan 2025–2029, outlining a comprehensive strategy to promote inclusive, accessible, and sustainable physical activity across the county.

The plan was developed through extensive consultation with local sports clubs, schools, community organisations, and residents, ensuring a collaborative approach to fostering an active lifestyle throughout the county.

Key components of the plan include:

Enhancing access to sports facilities and outdoor spaces.

Expanding programmes that encourage participation among harder to reach groups from older adults to ethnic minorities and the traveller community.

Supporting volunteer training and development within local sports organisations.

Promoting active travel and sustainable transportation options.

The plan aligns with national objectives set out in the National Sports Policy and the National Physical Activity Plan, aiming to create a more active and healthier Ireland.

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown is recognised in Sport Ireland research as the most active local authority area in the country and the plan in many ways build on what is in place and working at the moment.

There are nonetheless over 60 recommendations across the broad themes of People, Places, Delivery and Future Thinking that present a comprehensive route map on how to provide sport and activity to the greatest and most diverse number of people as is possible.

The plan was written by Core and Sport for Business and will be available to view in full later.
