The journey to the 2026 Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games has begun.  Over 1200 athletes from across the island of Ireland will compete across 12 sports in the largest inclusive sports event of the year.
The launch was full of energy and excitement as athletes, partners, volunteers and supporters gathered in the National Indoor Arena of the Sport Ireland Campus, Blanchardstown.
Special Olympics Ireland CEO Karen Coventry emphasised the broader impact the Games will have for athletes, families and communities: “Today’s launch is a celebration. But it is also a promise — a promise that in June this island will witness something extraordinary: not simply a sporting event, but a powerful demonstration of courage, preparation and belonging.”
One of the Faces of the Games, athlete Ashwin said: “It’s so surreal, this is my first ever time being Face of the Games. I joined Special Olympics in 2010, I was just beginning to speak. I’m feeling excited and ambitious!”
