In what is proving to be a busy week for the commercial team at Croke Park, the GAA has announced the launch of a new highlights app for iPhones that is live now in the App Store and will provide updated video content after every weekend of football and hurling action throughout the year.
There will be action from the Allianz Leagues, the Championship, Cadbury’s U21 and Electric Ireland Minor Championship games as well as an archive section to relive the season and exclusive content from bloggers involved in the sports.
The GAA is enjoying unprecedented growth of their games on an international level with new clubs emerging on a regular basis in every continent, country and city across the world.
“The app is available everywhere, in Ireland and internationally,” said Noel Quinn of the GAA speaking to Sport for Business.
“It is an initial toe in the water that will help gauge market reaction to such a service, and is another major step into the digital broadcasting space for the GAA.”
“There is a growing demand from our membership in Asia, Australia, Europe and North America, as well as an increasing use of smartphones here in Ireland.”
“Mobile is one of an expanding range of broadcast options, including digital, which we need to utilise to ensure our membership’s needs are serviced.”

“The app costs 89c in Ireland, the equivalent in local currencies around the world and we have plans to roll out an android compatible version as well.”
The use of video content is increasingly vital in the crowded space of online and mobile content.
The quality on the GAA app is very good and easy to navigate as well as watch.
Rights issues across different geographies can make this a complex process for the consumer as can be seen with restricted access to certain content on different websites from the Barclays Premier League in Ireland but the GAA has taken a strong step to the future of how games will be seen and the international dimension is to be applauded.
