The return of rugby this weekend will be different from what might have been imagined.

Guinness as sponsors of the Guinness PRO14 tournament in which Leinster and Munster will clash in front of an empty Aviva Stadium have embraced the challenge by creating an ‘at-home’ activation as well as a series of digital assets for social media sharing.

To celebrate rugby’s return and create the ultimate at-home rugby occasion, Guinness has teamed up with former Leinster rugby player Isa Nacewa, and former Munster player Ronan O’Gara to reveal limited-edition Guinness x BuJo Home Kits.

BuJo has been a landmark destination for burger aficionados over the last number of years. It was one of the first outlets to offer at-home kits so fans all over the country can now create their own BuJo masterpieces at home with everything they need delivered directly to their doorstep.

To celebrate the return of those “moments where people can collectively hold their breaths in anticipation and to ignite that friendly rivalry between the two provinces,” Guinness, in collaboration with BuJo, has created two limited edition kits, one for Leinster and one for Munster, priced at €40 each.

The kit will consist of 12 burger patties, 8 buns, pickles, cheese and BuJo’s original burger sauce, as well as two commemorative Guinness Glasses engraved with the fixture date to mark rugby’s long-awaited return and four cans of Guinness for the ultimate at-home rugby celebration.

Given the weather, it may have to be an indoor barbecue, and hopefully, we will still be able to gather as groups in line with COVID advice but it is a smart way to get the brand out front in what are clearly very difficult circumstances.

One of the Leinster kits and one of the Munster kits will also feature a Guinness Golden Rugby Ticket, which includes a pair of tickets to each of Ireland’s home fixtures in the 2021 Guinness Six Nations.

There will be mischief in the promotion as well. Whichever province’s kit sells out first will be deemed the winner, and the loser will deliver a message to congratulate their rival on social media. That could be an ‘ouch’ moment that fans will enjoy.

Guinness has also developed a series of giphys so people can create their own STOUTie at home and show their allegiance as part of one of rugby, and Ireland’s greatest rivalries. The giphys will be available through Instagram Stories by searching GIFs for Guinness Pro14.
