Ireland secured a historic medal haul during the two-day Northern European Gymnastics Championships held at the Sport Ireland Campus over the weekend.

It was just reward and a firestarter in terms of inspiration for Gymnastics Ireland, which invested a significant six-figure sum in securing the Championships and building the arena.

The National Indoor Arena at the Sport Ireland Campus has been host to national events run by the National Governing Body since it opened, and the sport was a key part of the business case for equipping the arena as it is with the capacity to host external events with an audience.

The weekend was a sell-out on both Saturday and Sunday, with a total attendance of 3,000, who saw not only the action of a major Gymnastics Championship but also Irish success and the presence on both days of the Paris 2024 Olympic Gold medalist and Double World Champion Rhys McClenaghan as part of the presentation team.

On Saturday, Ireland’s Women’s Team won All-Around Gold in the Team event, as well as a Gold for Emma Slevin and a Bronze for Halle Hilton in the same all-around event.

They also won the Men’s Team silver in the All-Around Event on Day One.

Then, in the women’s apparatus finals on Sunday they finished the day with four medals, one in every event.

Emma Slevin claimed one silver (floor) and two bronze medals (balance beam & uneven bars) to add to her two golds on the opening day on Saturday. Halle Hilton secured silver in the women’s vault.

On day two, the Irish men were also impressed at the Sport Ireland Campus, where Niall Hooten earned a silver medal on parallel bars.

It was the first podium-level international event to be hosted in Ireland and is being used by Gymnastics Ireland as a showcase for regular international competitions to be staged in Dublin.
