The Salacresracingteam Irish Grand National will start on October 15th and run through to October 26th. Salacres came into being in 1997 when trainer and owner Peter harden moved to Nottingham Greyhound Stadium in the UK Midlands. The team has steadily expanded and is now one of the largest greyhound racing establishments in the UK.
The shorter than usual timeframe of heats through to the grand Final will facilitate the travelling to Dublin of greyhounds travelling from the UK. The event was announced on Sky Sports greyhound racing coverage this week and will attract greater interest than the €8,500 prize fund might suggest was likely.
“Salacres Racing Team has had great success with greyhounds purchased from Harold’s Cross,” said new sponsor Peter Harden. “We will enter the best we have and looking forward to stiff competition from Ireland and Britain.”
“The sponsorship of Salacres Racing Team is a perfect fit for this competition as the Irish Grand National is an annual battle between the best Irish and UK hurdlers,” said Philip Peake Sales, Operations and Commercial Manager at Harold’s Cross. “We always welcome a strong UK contingent and last year’s winner Oliver’s Twist was among them.
One of the main aims of the sponsorship is to highlight the facilities Salacres Racing Team has on offer for Irish based greyhounds competing in Major UK Competitions. In that sense is is not only a winner in terms of attracting overseas investment but will also help Irish trainers aiming to bring back overseas prize money.
