It was only by the finest of margins that Ireland did not complete a greenwash at Cheltenham yesterday. Travelling horses won six of the seven events to bring the running total to 11 from 14 over the first two days.
In the Championship race of the day, it was once more Henry de Bromhead, from his base in Waterford, that landed the spoils with Put the Kettle On landing the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
Rachal Blackmore kept up her charge winning two more races to lead the Jockey’s Title race by one but also suffered a couple of falls, thankfully nothing serious.
The all-time record number for Irish winners at the Festival is 19 and that is now surely under threat with another hatful of favourites and fancied runner today and tomorrow flying the Irish flag.
The action gets underway once more with the first of six televised races on Virgin Media One at 13:20 this afternoon.
Paddy Power is the principal sponsor for the third day of the Festival, and the sponsors of Virgin Media’s coverage, so be prepared to see plenty of Peter Crouch and talking horses as you navigate the print, online and broadcast media today.
With four winners and six placed horse from our selections so far, including both Honeysuckle and Put The Kettle On, we are doing well on the tipping front and today’s selections, aware of the fact that gravity normally drags down any notions of thinking this is easy, are:
1.20 Shan Blue
1.55 Milliner
2.30 Fakir D’Oudairies
3.05 Flooring Porter
3.40 Farclas
4.15 Royal Kahala
4.50 Shantou Flyer
