It’s a great picture from Ray McManus of Sportsfile and a great cause to raise money for the Dublin Neurological Institute.

The increasing age of our population means increasing numbers of people with neurological disease. In fact 1 in 2 women and 1 in 3 men develop dementia, stroke or Parkinsonism during their life.

700,000 people in Ireland are currently suffering suffer from neurological disease and there is simply not enough services to support them.

With a ratio of just 1 per 140,625 people, Ireland has the lowest number of Consultant Neurologists per head of population in the entire western world.

Tim Lynch, Director of the Dublin Neurological Institute, is pictured above (second from the right) alongside All Ireland Football Champions Sarah and Jack McCaffrey and their father Noel, Director of Exwell Medical.

The cost of running the DNI for a year is a minimum of €100,000 but the more funds raised, the more patients that can be treated. A year of restrictions and lockdowns has their hampered our ability to raise funds and so they have set up Let’s Run as One.

The ask is to do three things. Run or walk 5K over the weekend of February 27th / 28th, make a donation at gofundme.com/f/dnirun or text DNI to 50300to donate €4, and to spread the word to encourage others.

We’re in.
