Due to a medical emergency, today’s session has had to be cancelled and will be rescheduled.

Media coverage of Women’s sport is the main driver towards parity of esteem and this week we will be dropping in on three important webinars taking place hosted by the European Broadcasting Union.

On Tuesday, November 17th ‘Women and Sport: Shifting a Nations Perspective’ will take place between 12 noon and 1 PM Dublin time looking at how the BBC’s #ChangeTheGame campaign was rolled out across digital and social channels. It will consider the impact that the campaign had on audience figures, brand perception and attracting a young demographic.

On Thursday, November 19th the emphasis switches to ‘Setting Targets and Measuring Coverage’ with Swedish broadcaster SVT. Anyone who heard and saw the work which Hakan Wikstrom and his team were doing at our 2019 Sport for Business Women in Sport Conference, will be interested in dropping in to see how the far marking and measuring has come in achieving equal coverage.

The final session looks at the “Portrayal of Sportswomen in the Media’ where Nadia Bonjour, a former Communications Manager at the IOC will give practical advice on how to bring a better gender balance to sports storytelling, with best practice examples and tips that can be used immediately.

RTÉ Deputy Head of Sport Cliona O’Leary is Chair of the European Broadcasting Union Committee on Women in Sport and we have a number of places to attend these virtual sessions next week.
