Irish ultra-endurance athlete Ger Prendergast is leveraging elite performance, digital platforms and community engagement in an ambitious Guinness World Record attempt, running 60 marathons in 60 consecutive days while raising €60,000 for cancer research.

The challenge, known as Mission 60, is being completed on a treadmill in Dublin, with each marathon live-streamed daily via GymLive and conducted in line with Guinness World Records guidelines.

All funds raised will go directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in the United States to support innovative cancer research programmes.

Based in Ballymun, Prendergast is no stranger to extreme endurance. His previous achievements include winning the DECA UK continuous triathlon, completing seven marathons on seven continents in seven days, racing 250km through the Sahara Desert, and completing 52 Ironman-distance triathlons in 52 consecutive weeks.

Despite that track record, Mission 60 represents his most demanding undertaking, combining physical strain with mental resilience over a 60-day period without rest.

The structure of the challenge has helped turn a solo endurance effort into a shared experience.

Supporters can follow progress daily, join virtually, and engage with content throughout the run. Local backing from the Ballymun community, combined with national and international digital reach, has created a strong sense of collective participation.

“Mission 60 is about showing what’s possible when purpose is stronger than comfort,” said Prendergast, who noted the universal impact of cancer. “This is my way of contributing something meaningful while pushing the limits of human endurance.”
