Ian Madigan Dublin 7'sDonnybrook Stadium is to host a major Rugby 7’s event on May 28th attracting professional teams from England, Ireland, Italy, France and Japan.

This will be the first such event hosted in Dublin though Thomond Stadium in Limerick has played host to the World Club 7’s over the past two years.  That event took place in August but there is no confirmation yet on a date for 2016.

The Dublin 7’s Festival has enlisted the help of Ireland Internationals Ian Madigan and Sophie Spence to promote what is billed as a celebration of rugby with music, food, craft beer’s and a family fun zone.

There will also be an associated flag rugby event at Belvedere College in the morning with an opportunity for the winning teams there to compete on the main pitch during the afternoon.

Up to 5,000 spectators are expected through the day and there will be an elite women’s match featuring players from around the globe will whet rugby fans’ appetites ahead of the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup hosted by Dublin and Belfast.

“This is set to be the biggest and highest profile 7s tournament ever to be held in Ireland and an opportunity to play witness to the best 7s rugby players in the world battle it out in Donnybrook Stadium,” said Brian McDermott of EventFuel, the organisers of the event.
