Broadcaster joins strong sponsor roster
Golf Ireland remains headline brand
Four Major Champions and a €2 Million prize

To celebrate, a specially built putting green was constructed on South King Street and a large crowd gathered to see 2009 winner Shane Lowry take on Newstalk sports editor Ger Gilroy and colleagues in a challenge that was to be fair, rather one sided.
Speaking at the challenge today, Ger Gilroy, Newstalk said, “We are delighted to be an official sponsor of The Irish Open 2013 and it is fantastic to have Shane Lowry here to take part in the putting challenge,” said Gilroy swapping his putter for a microphone.
Newstalk will be broadcasting live from the event over the closing two days. All four of Ireland’s current Major Champions will take part in the event which has a prize fund of €2 million and is once again primarily supported by Fáilte Ireland.
Other commercial partners include Emirates Airlines, BMW, Heineken, Moy Park, Tullow Oil and Rolex.
A major part of this year’s return is the creation of a 1,500 seat amphitheatre around the 17th green, where a ginat screen will relay action from the course as well as social media streams.
UPC will be pleased with the extra coverage coming into its sponsored weekend sports shows on the station.
